Vet Bardwell Park: Gentle Care, and a Straight Answer on Cost
You went looking for a price before booking, and every vet just told you to call for a quote. At Rockdale Veterinary Hospital on Forest Rd, a few minutes from Bardwell Park in Sydney’s St George area, among the areas we care for, the honest answer starts before any treatment does. You get a clear estimate first, and if your pet is insured, the billing usually goes straight to your insurer rather than leaving you to claim it back. For a vet Bardwell Park pet owners can trust to be straight about money and gentle with a nervous animal, that pairing is the whole point.
What Actually Shapes a Vet Bill
Most of the worry about a vet visit is really worry about the number at the end. Here is how that number is built, before you commit.
A standard consultation is its own fixed thing. A bill grows in what the vet finds and what you decide to do about it: a blood test, an X-ray, a tooth that needs to come out, a lump that needs looking at. None of it happens by surprise. When the vet recommends a test or a treatment, you hear what it is, why it helps, and what it costs in a written estimate, and then you choose. You can ask the price of any single step and stop there to think it over.
Two things keep that figure manageable. Our everyday pricing is set to be accessible on purpose, because a family-owned clinic has every reason to keep care within reach. And if your pet is insured, we deal with the insurer for you, so the bill lands in proportion rather than all at once.

Rockdale Veterinary Hospital, and the Vet Who Leads It
The practice is owned and led by Dr Robert Kay. His work runs from everyday medicine through to advanced and orthopaedic surgery, including TPLO cruciate ligament repair, and he leads a team of skilled veterinary nurses. Every vet here is Fear Free qualified.
We started as a family-owned clinic in 2022 and have since cared for more than 5,000 local pets, with a 4.9-star rating across 230 reviews and around half of new clients arriving on a friend’s recommendation. When you hand over an anxious dog or a frightened cat, you are handing it to people who do this gently, all day.
We welcome all sizes and breeds!
- Please call us as price is dependent on your pet’s sex, species and weight
- Day procedure available Monday-Friday
- All desexing surgeries include additional intravenous fluids throughout surgery, pain relief for 3 days at home, an Elizabethan collar and a post-op recheck
What Changes When We Don’t Scruff or Muzzle
Fear Free is a certification, and it changes the actual visit. No cat is scruffed here, and no dog is muzzled. We move at the animal’s pace, use patient and gentle handling, and reach for calming medication when a pet genuinely needs help to settle.
Standard consultations run a full 30 minutes, which gives a worried pet time to stop bracing and gives you time to talk through what is going on. Dogs and cats have their own separate, purpose-designed consult rooms, so a cat is not sitting nose to nose with a barking dog before it is even on the table. For an animal that has had a bad time at the vet before, that quieter approach is often the difference between a fight and a check-up.

The Services Your Pet Can Come In For
Most of what your pet will ever need is handled here on site. Health checks and consultations, vaccinations, and puppy and kitten care for the early years, including puppy preschool in Bardwell Park. In-clinic diagnostics when something is not right, including digital X-ray, ultrasound and heart scans, plus vet dentistry close to Bardwell Park, desexing, and general and orthopaedic surgery. Because diagnostics and operations happen under one roof in a fully equipped animal hospital near Bardwell Park, the team that examines your pet is usually the team that treats it. The exception is the rare case that needs a board-certified specialist: if that is your pet, we will be straight with you about it and organise the referral ourselves.
A Few Streets Over: Finding Us and Our Hours
Bardwell Park sits beside Bexley and Bardwell Valley, just off the Forest Rd line that runs through Bexley, and we are the same local clinic behind general vet care in Bardwell Valley. The clinic is at 335 Forest Rd, a few minutes by car from most Bardwell Park homes, with Earlwood and Bexley North close on either side, so pets from over the way come to us for general vet care in Bexley North too. On a trip that short, even a pet that hates the carrier is barely settled before you are there.
We are open 7 days. Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm, closed only on public holidays. You can reach us by phone on 02 9123 6888, email team@rockdalevets.com.au, or book online whenever it suits you.
