Puppy Preschool Banksia: A Vet-Run Class for the Puppy You Already Have

Puppy Preschool Banksia is a small, friendly socialisation and training class for the pup already curled up at home, run by a veterinary team rather than a business that breeds or sells dogs. So you are booking a class, not buying a puppy. It runs in Banksia, NSW, the pocket of Sydney’s St George area between Rockdale and Arncliffe, a few minutes up Forest Rd at Rockdale Veterinary Hospital in Bexley. We have cared for more than 5,000 local pets since 2022, and a nurse and vet keep an eye on the room while your puppy learns its first lessons in being a confident dog.

A Class for the Dog You Brought Home, Not a Place That Sells Them

“Puppy” and “Banksia” together turn up a few different things online, some of them breeders and sellers. Our preschool is neither. It is for owners who already have a pup and want help raising it: the early mixing with other dogs, calm first handling, the basics of sitting and settling. You bring the puppy you have chosen, and we give it a structured start.

When to Start, and What a Session Looks Like

Begin young, soon after the first vaccinations, while the early socialisation window is still open. That window covers roughly the first few months and does not stay open long, so starting early matters more than waiting for a fully grown dog. A session is short and busy: gentle play with the right playmates, a little practice being handled the way a vet would, and the first manners that make a dog easy to live with. Each week builds on the last, so your pup meets the world in small, positive doses.

We welcome all breeds & sizes!

Booking a Place From Banksia: Hours, the Clinic and Getting There

The class runs from the clinic at 335 Forest Rd, Bexley, a short drive north of Banksia up Forest Rd, with parking when you arrive. From most local streets it is an ordinary few minutes by car, so a weekly class night never turns into an outing. Banksia is one of the areas we care for across St George, and owners nearby looking for a puppy preschool in Arncliffe or puppy preschool in Kogarah are welcome too. To ask about a place, phone 02 9123 6888, email team@rockdalevets.com.au, or book online. We are open 7 days: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm, closed on public holidays. Course pricing is confirmed when you enquire, and because places fill, the first step is to ring about the next intake.

Is a Vet-Run Class Worth It Beside a Trainer or Pet-Shop Group?

For early socialisation, yes, and where you do it changes what your puppy gets. Most puppy classes near Banksia are run by independent dog trainers, out of a pet shop, or by a sitter booked through an app, and they teach the play and manners well enough. What none of them can do is watch your puppy’s health and vaccination status in the same room at the same time. Ours runs inside a working clinic, so a nurse can catch an early niggle, the group stays to vaccinated puppies, and the training sits alongside the medical care. The same team is behind general vet care in Banksia, vet dentistry in Banksia and our animal hospital in Banksia, so the faces your pup meets in class are the ones it keeps seeing as it grows.

The Vet Whose Name Is on the Class: Dr Robert Kay at Rockdale Veterinary Hospital

The class is held to the same standard as the rest of Rockdale Veterinary Hospital, set by our owner and head vet, Dr Robert Kay. He and the whole team are Fear Free qualified, which is the heart of how a puppy class should run: gentle handling, no forcing, and first experiences pitched to leave a young dog calm rather than rattled, so the vet feels like a good place to be for life. We are family-owned, with around half of our new families arriving on a recommendation, and our 30-minute consults and separate dog and cat rooms are the same unhurried care your pup meets in class.

Enrol Your Banksia Puppy in the Next Class

If your pup is home and the right age, the next move is to ask what is open. Call 02 9123 6888 or book online, and we will talk you through the next intake for your Banksia puppy.

What Owners Near Banksia Ask Us

Line Separator

A class for the puppy you already have. We do not breed or sell dogs. You bring your own pup, and we run the socialisation and early training with a vet and nurse keeping watch.

It is. A Banksia Grove in Perth shares the name, but this class is held for the Banksia in Sydney’s St George area, between Rockdale and Arncliffe, a short trip from the clinic on Forest Rd in Bexley.

No. A place is open to any local puppy whether or not we are your usual vet, and many owners use the class as an easy introduction before deciding where to take their pet.

At least the first vaccination, yes. The room is shared with other young puppies, so that early cover keeps every pup in the group safe while their protection is still building.

Genuinely close. Banksia sits just down Forest Rd from us, a few minutes by car past Rockdale into Bexley, so getting your pup to a weekly class is one of the easiest things on the list rather than a trek across Sydney.
