Under one roof at 335 Forest Rd we cover health checks and consultations, vaccinations and our puppy preschool, our vet dentistry, desexing, skin and dermatology, and behaviour work, through to in-clinic diagnostics and surgery when a case calls for them, plus cat boarding.
Surgery and Diagnostics Done Under This Roof
Our in-clinic diagnostics run on site: digital X-ray, ultrasound, heart scanning and pathology, so a sick or injured pet can be worked up the same day rather than booked in elsewhere next week.
On the surgical side, Dr Kay performs both routine and advanced procedures here: general soft-tissue surgery, dentistry under anaesthesia, desexing, and orthopaedic work such as TPLO repair for a ruptured cruciate ligament. TPLO is a serious knee operation many general clinics send away; doing it in-house means your dog is operated on, monitored and recovered by people who already know its history. When a case needs a specialist beyond what a general practice offers, we have referral access and arrange it for you.

Being Fear Free is not just about a gentle consult. It shapes how a frightened animal is handled at every step, including the parts of a visit that worry owners most. We do not scruff cats and we do not muzzle dogs; we work at the animal’s pace, use gentle handling, and reach for calming medication when a pet needs help to settle, and the whole team is qualified in these techniques.
That matters most when surgery or a scan is involved: a calmer animal going under anaesthetic is a safer one, and one that has not been frightened beforehand recovers better. Standard consultations run a full 30 minutes, and separate dog and cat consulting rooms mean a nervous cat is not waiting nose-to-nose with a dog before it has even been seen.

We are a family-owned practice, and we opened Rockdale Veterinary Hospital in 2022 to take a pet’s emotional welfare as seriously as its physical health. Dr Robert Kay owns the practice and works as our head vet. We are open every day, with extended weekday hours so a visit fits around work and school: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm. We close on public holidays.
